modi vivendi

modi vivendi is a group formed around the singer/songwriter Bodo Schaffrath: virtuosic, humorous and entertaining.
Always on the lookout for new ideas and impressions: this attitude ensures that the band and their songs continue to evolve. This results in something new and unique, and almost guarantees that the music remains exciting for the listener.
The music is powerful and passionate, pulsating, breathing, and touching, playfully blending pop music with elements of classical, folk, jazz, and rock. Bass, cajon, keyboard, and guitar provide the artistic framework for the group's compositions and arrangements. However, the voice takes center stage, clear and commanding. Solo passages alternate with harmonious choral arrangements, encouraging the audience to sing along and thus becoming an integral part of the concert.
The lyrics tell stories in German, embedded in catchy, lyrical melodies. They recount experiences, events, and people, captivating the listener while simultaneously leaving space for their own thoughts.
A unique blend and special sounds await the listeners.

church music

Missa Suava

The composition Missa Suave (Sweet Mass) was written in 2000, during my time as conductor of the Schuttertal church choir. It is a mass with Latin texts, arranged for soloists, choir (SATB), keyboards, guitar, bass, and drums. It was first performed in the church in Schuttertal in 2000.

In Lucem

This concert mass, In Lucem ("Into the Light"), was composed in 2002. Inspired by the events following 9/11, the composition grapples with the central question: "Does God, the divine, truly exist? If so, who or what is God, and where can I find Him?" The mass's intention is to take the listener on a journey into their own inner self, accompanied and guided by the music. This is achieved through an unusual, timeless array of instruments, melodies that can be traced back to a wide range of eras, and soundscapes that constantly challenge the central focus. The mass was first performed in 2002 in the city park in Lahr.
